Have you been debating in your mind whether Naturopathic Medicine is the right choice for you? Have you suffered with chronic illness or pain for a long time? Perhaps you have seen several specialists for hormone imbalance or weight issues you can’t seem to fix. Or maybe you’re a very healthy person who wants to stay healthy and keep the energy of your youth. No matter what your situation is, it is likely that Naturopathic Medicine is a good fit for you. If you’re still on the fence, consider these 10 reasons to see a Naturopathic Doctor today:
1. Individualized approach
Think about your last visit to the doctor’s office. Did you feel the doctor treated you as an individual or as a case study—a number in the system? Were you just a cog in the assembly line of patients the doctor was seeing that day? Was the doctor in and out of your visit in about 5 minutes after you’d waited for over an hour to see them? In Naturopathic Medicine, speed is not a priority. The doctors take time with each patient, listening and addressing concerns. The first appointment for a Naturopathic Doctor is rarely shorter than an hour. The doctors want to get to know you as a person as well as what your health history is. Once they determine the diagnosis, they prepare an individualized treatment plan that is just for you. One patient’s treatment plan is never the same as another because every patient is different.
2. Treat the cause, not just symptoms
Many of the health issues people face today are symptoms of a greater issue. Band-aid-like medications cover up some things but don’t address the real cause. By figuring out what’s causing the problem, Naturopathic Doctors can work to reverse it. A good example of this is blood pressure. While initially taking a blood pressure pill may be needed to lower blood pressure, when you identify the cause of the increase in blood pressure (weight, stress, diet, etc.) and treat that cause, eventually the need for the medication may go away.
3. Bioidentical hormones
Healthy hormones are a key component of a healthy body. If one hormone is out of balance, it can throw everything else off. Naturopathic Doctors use bioidentical hormones instead of synthetic hormones because bioidentical hormones are equal what your body would naturally use and don’t come with the unwanted side effects and/or cancer risk of synthetic versions.
4. Effective weight loss solutions
As stated earlier, Naturopathic Medicine treats the cause instead of the symptom. Perhaps weight gain has been a symptom of a greater issue. It could be a food allergy, hormone imbalance, poor lifestyle choices, insulin resistance or something else. By assessing the cause of the weight gain and then targeting weight loss with treatment, diet and exercise, patients who want to lose weight have more success than simply trying a random diet or nutrition plan on their own.
5. Multiple solutions to similar problems
Some problems may be able to be solved in multiple ways. Identifying the treatment solution that works best for the individual is paramount to Naturopathic Medicine. There is not just one fix for an issue. Let’s say you have chronic migraines. Some of the options for treatment could include acupuncture, supplements, cupping, food allergy testing, stem cell treatments, hydrotherapy and/or homeopathy. We figure out what would be best for you.
Figure out exactly what your body needs so that age is less of a factor in your health as the years go by. Again, this ties in with treating the individual and prevention being the best medicine. At San Tan Natural Medicine we are on the cutting edge of laboratory testing and anti-aging medicine treatments.
7. Doctor as teacher
Have you ever gone to a doctor and they do a bunch of lab tests? Later they tell you the lab results came back and everything is fine. What does that mean? It sounds good, but wouldn’t it be nice if they took the time to tell you why you got the labs done in the first place and what the results mean even if they are good? Naturopathic Doctors do just that. We do not run tests without telling you why we are going to run them. When the results come in, we explain everything in detail to you so that you can fully understand what is going on with your health.
8. Begin where you are and go from there
Even if you’re healthy, you can still improve your health. If you’re sick or have chronic issues or are even on several medications, Naturopathic Doctors work with you to find the best solutions for you. This is not a one-step, stop-everything-you’re-doing-and-start-brand-new kind of thing. The approach is gradual and treatment plans are adjusted as you progress toward a healthier you.
9. Health partner
Naturopathic Doctors give patients the tools and techniques and information necessary to improve their own health. Yes, this can mean prescriptions and supplements sometimes, but most often it means the patient must do the work. They have to commit to change their lifestyle and take control of their own health.
10. Prevention is the best medicine
The old adage “an apple a day keeps the doctor away” applies here. What you do today affects your future health. If you want to take a reactive approach and go to the doctor only when you’re sick or injured, then you are missing out on the opportunity to proactivity prevent illness and injury. Of course, life happens and we all may need some kind of emergency service at some point. But, if you give your body the nutrients and other healthy things it needs to fight infection and heal itself, you’ll be that much better off. Naturopathic Doctors thrive in the realm of prevention.
