Pain Management
santan natural medicine
Acupuncture
Acupuncture is an ancient oriental medicine.  It works upon the principle of restoring the balance
of vital energy or yin and yang to the body and/or specific regions.  It is used effectively to treat
various chronic and acute conditions, especially pain.

Myofascial Trigger Point Injection Therapy
Myofascial Trigger Point Injection Therapy (MTPIT) is used to relieve many acute and chronic
pain related problems of the musculoskeletal system.  Natural substances, including saline,
vitamin Bs, homeopathics and procaine are injected into trigger points (also referred to as
muscle knots) to reduce and eliminate pain.

Mesotherapy and Neural Therapy
Mesotherapy and Neural Therapy are injection therapies used to stimulate the healing process
and relieve pain associated with the musculoskeletal system.  These therapies work by
stimulating the autonomic nerves in the skin, which act to improve circulation and nerve supply
to areas of pain and injury.  Both mesotherapy and neural therapy involve superficial
injections just below the level of the skin.

Prolotherapy
Prolotherapy is a regenerative injection therapy.  Natural substances, including homeopathics
are injected into the tendons, ligaments and joints of areas of chronic pain associated with
past injuries.  Most areas of chronic pain associated with a past injuries are the result of a
build up of scar tissue and/or an improper healing of the surrounding tissue.  Prolotherapy acts to
breakup scar tissue and improve circulation and immune response to encourage proper
healing and restore normal function of the tendons, ligaments and joints.

All of the modalities mentioned above work on the premise of encouraging the natural healing process inherent to the human organism.  All of these modalities have proven to be safe and effective as an alternative to pain medications and frequently, surgery.
